Hoe installeer en configureer ik een eSIM op mijn iOS-apparaat?

Controleer de volgende punten om er zeker van te zijn dat je je eSIM kunt installeren en instellen:

Je apparaat is eSIM-compatibel en simlockvrij. (zie Welke apparaten ondersteunen eSIM's? of Hoe controleer ik of mijn iOS-apparaat eSIM's ondersteunt?)
Je beschikt over een stabiele verbinding, bij voorkeur wifi. (Je moet de eSIM correct downloaden naar je apparaat en een stabiele internetverbinding is noodzakelijk.)

Waar vind ik de instructies voor eSIM-installatie in de Airalo-app?

Je vindt alle instructies voor het installeren van je eSIM door het volgende te doen.

Open de Airalo-app.
Ga naar Mijn eSIM's en selecteer je eSIM.
Tik op Gegevens bekijken
Go to the section Ready to use your eSIM
Selecteer Installeren of delen.

To view the manual installation instructions and QR code, select Share and more, or start the installation directly by clicking on Start installation.

Waarom kan ik de installatie-instructies niet vinden nadat ik mijn eSIM geïnstalleerd heb?

Wanneer Airalo detecteert dat je eSIM geïnstalleerd is, zijn de instructies voor het toevoegen van de eSIM mogelijk niet meer zichtbaar in de app. Je ziet dan in plaats daarvan het gedeelte "Verbinding maken", zodat je verbinding kunt maken met een netwerk en je eSIM kunt gebruiken.

Als je om wat voor reden dan ook de installatie-instructies moet raadplegen, kun je de PDF met installatie-instructies raadplegen die bij je bestelbevestiging of de e-mail over de geleverde eSIM gevoegd is.

Een eSIM direct installeren voor iOS

Select Start installation > Continue until the activation starts — Allow the eSIM to activate if asked; if additional steps appear on your screen, simply follow the instructions shown.
Wacht terwijl de eSIM wordt geactiveerd (sluit het proces niet af, het kan een paar minuten duren).
Selecteer Gereed wanneer daarom gevraagd wordt. Vervolgens ga je de eSIM instellen.
Na het voltooien van deze stappen zie je een bevestiging dat je eSIM geïnstalleerd is.
Slide to Continue
A pop-up may appear asking you to enable data roaming for your eSIM (if required). If it does, enable it and Slide to continue.
Another pop-up will ask if you’re already at your destination.
- If you are in the destination country, tap Get Connected to check the steps to connect to your network.
- If you haven’t arrived yet, tap Connect Later.

Most eSIM validity periods start only when the eSIM connects to a mobile network in its coverage area. So installing early usually won’t cause you to lose plan days. In some rare cases, validity may begin at installation, so it’s a good idea to check eSIM's validity policy by selecting Package details before or after purchase.

We aim to make your installation experience as smooth as possible. However, if a direct installation attempt fails, you may see a "Something went wrong" message on your screen.

If this happens, simply tap "View options" to access our self-service tools. Depending on the situation, you will be able to:

Open Instellingen
Tik op Mobiel (of Mobiele data)
Tap Add eSIM (Add Mobile Data Plan or Add Cellular Plan)
Tap Use QR code -> Scan QR Code
Tik op Voeg gegevens handmatig in, en voer het volgende in:
- SM-DP+-adres
- Activatiecode
- Bevestigingscode (indien beschikbaar)
Select Next, then Select Continue twice — Allow the eSIM to activate if asked; if additional steps appear on your screen, simply follow the instructions shown.
Wacht terwijl de eSIM wordt geactiveerd (sluit het proces niet af, het kan een paar minuten duren).
Select Done when prompted — next, you’ll set up your eSIM by following the steps in the “How to Connect” section.

Een eSIM installeren via een QR-code op een iOS-apparaat

Open Instellingen
Tik op Mobiel (of Mobiele data)
Tap Add eSIM (Add Mobile Data Plan or Add Cellular Plan)
Tap Use QR code
Scan de QR-code van je eSIM-gegevens in de Airalo-app (je kunt ook een afgedrukt exemplaar of een ander apparaat gebruiken om de QR-code weer te geven)
Voer de 4-cijferige bevestigingscode in als dit gevraagd wordt (sla dit over indien er geen bevestigingscode is verstrekt)
Select Continue — Allow the eSIM to activate if asked; if additional steps appear on your screen, simply follow the instructions shown.
Wacht terwijl de eSIM wordt geactiveerd (sluit het proces niet af, het kan een paar minuten duren).
Select Done when prompted — next, you’ll set up your eSIM by following the steps in the “How to Connect” section.

How to connect to a network (QR code, manual method ans direct)

You can find the connection settings by opening the same eSIM in the Airalo app after installing it. Navigate to My eSIMs → Your eSIM → View details → Ready to use your eSIM → Connect to a network → How to connect. There, you'll find the exact steps you need to follow, but read on for a quick summary.

In the destination country:

Stap 1: schakel data in voor je eSIM

Open Instellingen.
Select Cellular (or Mobile Data).
Selecteer je eSIM.
Schakel Schakel deze lijn in in als deze niet is ingeschakeld.
Go back to Cellular/Mobile Data and select your eSIM as the data line.

Stap 2: werk de APN-instellingen bij (indien nodig)

Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
Selecteer je eSIM.
Selecteer Mobiel netwerk (of Mobiele data-netwerk).
Voer de APN in zoals deze wordt weergegeven in je Airalo-app.
Laat de andere velden leeg.
Als de APN automatisch is ingesteld, hoef je niets te wijzigen.

Stap 3: schakel Dataroaming in (indien nodig)

Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
Selecteer je eSIM.
Toggle Data Roaming ON or OFF as instructed in your Airalo app.

Step 4: Set your eSIM as the default voice line (if applicable)

Open Settings > Cellular > Default Voice Line.
Select your new eSIM for calls and SMS (if your package includes calls and texts).

Step 5: Disable Cellular Data Switching

Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
Tap Cellular Data.
Turn Allow Cellular Data Switching off.

Step 6: Choose a label for your eSIM

Open Instellingen.
Selecteer Mobiel (of Mobiele data).
Selecteer je eSIM.
Choose Label and select a suggested label or create a custom one (for example, “Airalo” or “Airalo for Canada”).

*Using a label helps you easily identify your eSIM, especially if you use multiple lines.

Bonus Step: Connect to the supported network

If your eSIM doesn't connect automatically:

Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
Selecteer je eSIM.
Selecteer Netwerkselectie.
Turn OFF Automatic.
Selecteer het netwerk dat wordt weergegeven in de instructies om verbinding te maken van je Airalo-app.

Understanding your eSIM status: Installed vs. In Use

You can track your setup progress directly in the Airalo app by going to My eSIMs, selecting your eSIM, and tapping View details. Depending on your setup stage, you may see one of these statuses:

Installed: The eSIM profile has been successfully downloaded and configured on your device. You can verify this by checking your device’s Settings > Cellular.
In Use: The eSIM has successfully connected to a mobile network and initiated a data session.

Note: In most cases, you can see these status updates in the app. However, please note that status visibility may vary depending on your specific eSIM

If you do not see a status, do not worry—simply check if your eSIM appears in your device’s Settings > Cellular. If it is there, head over to the "How to connect" section in the app / and follow the steps to get connected at your destination.
