Taipei Pride Guide: Packing List, Parade Details, Events & More

Taipei Pride Guide: Packing List, Parade Details, Events & More

If you've ever dreamed of dancing through a sea of rainbows with dumplings in one hand and a Pride flag in the other, Taipei Pride—Asia's largest LGBTQ+ celebration with over 200,000 participants from 130+ countries—is calling your name.

I’ve been, and trust me, it’s one of the most electrifying, welcoming, and wildly fun celebrations on the world’s Pride calendar

This guide has everything you need to dive in headfirst—from what to pack (yes, sparkle is encouraged) and how to get around with an eSIM, to insider tips on the parade, epic parties like X-Formosa, and the oh-so-vibey Rainbow Market.

I’ll also point you toward LGBTQ+ landmarks, photo spots, chill cafés, and where to crash after a night of dancing. Ready? Let’s make this your most colorful trip yet.

Packing List and Essentials

eSIM

At Taipei Pride, crowds can get huge. I’ve seen it firsthand.

Like I mentioned, over 200,000 people from more than 130 countries have gathered to celebrate, connect, and march together.

Being surrounded by such diversity is thrilling, but when that many people are packed into one area, things like public Wi-Fi quickly become overloaded.

That’s where eSIMs come in. Unlike relying on spotty Wi-Fi or expensive roaming, an eSIM lets you connect instantly with high-speed mobile data. It's a secure, private line that doesn’t get bogged down by the crowds.

Airalo’s Taiwan and Asia eSIMs

Airalo offers both Taiwan-specific and Asia-wide eSIM plans starting from just $4.50. Explore beyond Taipei with zero stress.  Here’s why eSIMs are such a game-changer for Pride travelers:

  • Instant setup—no need to visit a store or swap SIM cards
  • Stay connected even in crowded areas
  • More secure than public Wi-Fi
  • Access to fast, reliable internet across Taiwan and Asia
  • Budget-friendly options with transparent pricing
  • Dual-SIM functionality for keeping your original number
  • Great for hopping countries if you're touring the region

Furthermore, the Taiwan Xie Xie eSIM gives you unlimited  data valid for 10 days at just $3.50 per day—perfect for sharing your entire Pride experience without interruption

Clothing and Accessories

There’s something almost electric about the way people show up for Taipei Pride—it’s like fashion meets self-love on full blast. After a few years of marching, dancing, and photo-bombing drag queens, I’ve learned that your outfit isn’t just clothing, it’s a whole vibe.

People dressing up as Marvel (left) and Sailor Moon (right) characters.
If you don’t have any Pride-themed outfits, you can also dress up as your favorite pop culture characters!

Think sparkle, flair, and a splash of whatever makes you feel most unapologetically you. Glitter? Absolutely. LED sunglasses? Why not. Pride flags, bold prints, and statement accessories are basically part of the dress code.

But let’s be real, looking fab is only half the game, you’ll want to keep it practical too. Taipei in late October brings warm days and breezy evenings, so layers are your best friend.

I usually rock something light and breathable during the day, then toss on a jacket once the sun dips.

And if you’re hitting up X-Formosa or any of the late-night parties, make sure you can dance in it. Trust me, your feet (and your photos) will thank you.

Travel and Health Documents

Crossing international borders means the basics still matter. Before visiting Taiwan, you should make sure:

  • Ensure your passport is valid for 6+ months.
  • Check if you need a visa based on your nationality
  • Carry printed and digital travel insurance.
  • Save digital copies of vaccinations and health info.
  • Bring printed backups of key travel documents.

Devices and Electronics

Power drains fast when you're out all day.

I always pack a high-capacity portable charger and a couple of charging cables, especially since I’m usually filming stories or using maps nonstop.

Taiwan uses Type A and B plugs, like in the US, so if you're coming from Europe or Asia, a universal travel adapter is a must.

My go-to app? A translation app with offline mode. Even though Taipei is pretty English-friendly, having help with menus or street signs can really smooth things out.

Safety and Comfort

Big crowds, hot pavement, and long walks are all part of the Pride experience, but staying safe and comfortable keeps the vibe fun.

I never leave the hotel without applying SPF 50 sunscreen, and I carry a travel-sized one for reapplication.

The parade route has water stations, but they can be crowded, so a reusable water bottle saves time and keeps you hydrated. I also recommend a small crossbody bag with anti-theft zippers; I learned that lesson the hard way when someone tried to unzip my backpack in the crowd.

My kit usually includes some plasters for blisters, hand sanitizer, and tissues, because not every restroom has what you need. Staying prepared means I get to focus on what matters: showing up, standing proud, and dancing my heart out.

Brief History of Taipei Pride

Taipei Pride didn’t just appear out of thin air with rainbow flags waving.

It’s the result of years of courage, community, and a whole lot of fabulous resilience. What started in 2003 as a relatively modest march with about 1,000 participants has grown into the largest LGBTQ+ pride event in East Asia, attracting over 200,000 people from around the world.

The parade began as a grassroots movement, led by activists and NGOs fighting for visibility and equal rights in Taiwan, a place that, at the time, was still pretty quiet on queer issues.

Fast forward to 2019, and Taiwan became the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, turning Taipei Pride from a hopeful celebration into a full-blown beacon of progress.

Today, Taipei Pride isn’t just a parade. It’s a joyful, unapologetic celebration of love, identity, and global solidarity. And yes, it still makes room for killer outfits, dazzling floats, and a good dose of glitter.

Taipei Pride Parade Schedule and Details

Date and Time

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Taipei Pride Parade kicks off at Taipei City Hall and winds through the city before returning to the starting point.

There, attendees will find the main stage and a variety of stalls showcasing LGBTQ+ organizations and charities. With over 180,000 participants each year, the event is one of Asia’s largest, celebrating a unique theme annually.

Parade Route

Taipei Pride 2023

The parade begins at 2:00 PM, with two groups setting off from Ketagalan Boulevard in front of the Presidential Office. Here are the routes:

  • North Route: Taipei City Hall → Renai Road → Dunhua South Road → Zhongxiao East Road → Yixian Road → Taipei City Hall
  • South Route: Taipei City Hall → Ren’ai Road → Guangfu South Road → Xinyi Road → Dunhua South Road → Ren’ai Road → Taipei City Hall

Rainbow Market

One of the absolute highlights for me each year at Taipei Pride is the Rainbow Market. It’s more than just a cluster of stalls—it feels like a vibrant queer bazaar that pops up right at the finish of the parade route, packed with color, energy, and community spirit.

Think local LGBTQ+ artists selling handmade goods, queer-owned businesses offering everything from tote bags to tees, and non-profits spreading awareness in the most engaging ways possible.

Here are some vendors that have set up shop at the market:

  • HH Binder (formerly Heroine Binder): Innerwear and binder brand for transmen and non-binary people
  • Verve Taiwan: Local activewear brand that’s big on LGBTQ+ inclusion
  • Gay Harmony: A Hong Kong-based LGBTQ+ organization that has participated in the Rainbow Market, offering resources and support for the community
  • Seoul Queer Culture Festival: Representatives from this South Korean LGBTQ+ festival have joined the Rainbow Market, promoting cross-cultural solidarity.
  • Colorful Change Lab: An organization from Kyushu, Japan, known for its involvement in LGBTQ+ advocacy and participation in the Rainbow Market.

Theme and Participation

This year’s official theme, “Stand with Diversity,” couldn’t feel more timely.

With over 200,000 people expected to participate, the message is clear: the community is broad, intersectional, and stronger when we support each other.

In past parades, I’ve seen advocacy groups, drag performers, families, corporate allies, and international visitors all marching side by side.

Taipei Pride Events

Taipei Rainbow Festival

Every year during Pride weekend, I make a point to attend the Taipei Rainbow Festival in Ximen.

Set in the North Plaza of the iconic Red House from October 24 to 26, 2025, this open-air celebration has such a welcoming, community-focused vibe.

Between the live music, drag pop-ups, street performances, and the rows of LGBTQ+-owned booths, there’s something special about being surrounded by so much local talent and queer creativity.

I usually go in the afternoon when the energy is relaxed but still buzzing, then stay into the evening when the shows really kick off. It’s like a giant queer block party in one of Taipei’s most historic neighborhoods.

X-Formosa 2025 Rainbow Music Festival

Marking its 10th anniversary, X-Formosa 2025 is shaping up to be the wildest, boldest celebration yet.

X-Formosa 2024

Running from October 24 to 26, this music festival is the favorite part of Taipei Pride attendees. Each night brings something different.

X-Formosa stands out with a world-class lineup of international DJs, dazzling performances, and crowds dressed to match each night’s theme. It’s not just a party; it’s an experience where you dance until your feet hurt and still wish the night wouldn't end.

Events include:

  • Black Arena Party: October 24, 10:00 PM–3:30 AM
  • White Ball: October 25, 10:00 PM–4:00 AM
  • Tea Dance (WOOF): October 26, 4:00 PM–9:00 PM
  • Pink! Party: October 26, 10:30 PM–4:00 AM

Taipei International Drag Fest

The Taipei International Drag Fest is a newer addition to Pride Week, but wow, it’s already making waves.

In 2024, the event was organized by a fierce mix of Taiwanese drag queens and event collectives, and it felt like a true celebration of Asian drag artistry.

Queens from Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and even Australia tear up the stage with powerful performances that push the boundaries of style and storytelling.

There’s talk of expanding the lineup, possibly adding more daytime workshops, and even incorporating a fashion element into the show. Dates haven’t dropped yet, but you can bet I’ll be refreshing their feed the second October rolls around.

Cultural and Community Events

What I love most about Taipei Pride is how it mixes the party with real heart.

Throughout the week, you’ll find cultural events that dive into the stories behind the celebration.

From powerful panels at 228 Peace Memorial Park to indie queer films at the Red House that have moved the whole room to silence. Local art shows pop up too, filled with bold, beautiful expressions of queer identity.

It’s a reminder that Pride isn’t just about dancing in the streets—it’s about honoring the journey that got us there.

LGBTQ+ Landmarks and Attractions in Taipei

Red House Theater

If Taipei’s queer heart had a physical address, it would be the Red House Theater in Ximending.

Red House in Ximending

This historic gem started life as a marketplace back in 1908 and somehow evolved into one of Asia’s most iconic LGBTQ+ spaces—talk about a glow-up.

Today, it’s surrounded by cozy bars, rainbow flags, and weekend markets that buzz with creativity and community. I’ve spent entire afternoons sipping cold brew on its patio, people-watching and chatting with artists selling everything from zines to jewelry.

Rainbow Crossings

Taipei doesn’t just talk about inclusion—it paints it right onto the streets. Literally.

Activities happening at the Rainbow Crossing in Ximending

You’ll find vibrant rainbow crossings in front of Taipei City Hall and at the Ximending pedestrian zone, and yes, they’re just as photogenic as they sound.

I remember the first time I stood at one and thought, “Wow, this city really shows up for us.” Locals pass by like it’s no big deal, but for visitors, especially queer travelers, it’s a visual welcome mat that says you belong.

Snap a selfie, strike a pose, or just take a moment to smile. These crossings are subtle symbols that make a big statement.

LGBTQ+-Friendly Establishments

Finding LGBTQ+ inclusive places to stay in Taipei is refreshingly easy. I’ve stayed at both budget-friendly guesthouses and sleek boutique hotels, and never once felt out of place.

Cafés

  • Milkglider Latteartist Unity: A stylish café known for its award-winning latte art, cozy setting, and support for the queer creative scene. It's a favorite for casual hangouts or snapping a cute cup-and-rainbow pic.

Bars

Portion sizes aside, I think Bear Junkies is worth a visit if you want to meet their resident good boy

  • Bear Junkies: Bear Junkies is part brunch spot, part bar, and totally bear-approved. It’s a cozy hideaway in Taipei where the drinks are strong, the vibe is chill, and the crowd is as warm and fuzzy as the name suggests.
  • Café Dalida: Just steps from the Red House, Dalida is a staple of Taipei’s queer nightlife. With its tropical decor, outdoor seating, and occasional drag shows, it's where the party starts.
  • The Secret Garden: A cheeky, colorful bar that mixes fun cocktails with high-energy playlists. It’s great for dancing, flirting, or just soaking in the vibe.
  • HERO Bar: Sleek, loud, and proudly inclusive, HERO pulls in a younger crowd with DJs, themed nights, and an anything-goes attitude that keeps the energy high.

Hotels

  • amba Taipei Ximending: Right in the heart of the Red House district, this hotel is modern, walkable to everything Pride-related, and known for its warm, inclusive atmosphere.
  • citizenM Taipei North Gate: Smart rooms, stylish design, and a no-fuss check-in make this a favorite among international LGBTQ+ travelers.
  • Hotel PaPa Whale: Funky, artistic, and full of personality, this spot stands out with bold decor and a great location for post-parade recovery.
  • Green World Hotel Zhonghua: This one blends comfort with convenience and sits in the heart of the Ximending shopping and nightlife area. It's friendly, accessible, and perfect for Pride-goers.

Travel and Accommodation Tips

Getting to Taipei

Flying into Taipei for Pride is pretty straightforward, especially if you’re landing at Taoyuan International Airport. From there, you’ve got a few easy options to reach the city center.

I usually hop on the Taoyuan Airport MRT—it’s fast, clean, and gets you into Taipei Main Station in about 35 minutes. If I’ve got heavier bags or just feel like taking it easy, a taxi ride costs a bit more but gets me straight to my hotel door.

Some folks opt for shuttle buses too, especially late at night when train service slows down. Either way, getting from the airport to the heart of the Pride action is smooth sailing.

Public Transportation

Even if it's your first time here, Taipei’s public transport is a dream for travelers. I rely on the MRT for most of my city-hopping during Pride week—it’s efficient, air-conditioned, and super easy to navigate with English signage throughout.

Buses cover more local routes and can get you closer to specific event venues if you can map it out. Taxis are relatively affordable everywhere.

Now, just to clear the confusion: MRT is Taipei’s metro system and great for short city rides. THSR, or Taiwan High-Speed Rail, is your go-to for zipping down to other cities like Kaohsiung. TRA refers to the older, slower rail network that connects more rural and regional destinations.

For Taipei Pride? Stick to the MRT and you’ll be fine.

FAQs about Pride in Taiwan

Is Taipei the only city where Pride is held in Taiwan?

Nope! While Taipei Pride is the biggest and boldest, other cities like Kaohsiung and Taichung also throw their own Pride events throughout the year. So if you’re Pride-hopping across Taiwan, you’ve got options.

What is the history of Taipei Pride?

Taipei Pride kicked off in 2003 with just a few thousand participants and has grown into the largest LGBTQ+ Pride in Asia. It’s been a front-row seat to Taiwan’s journey toward equality, including becoming the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage.

Do I have to be LGBTQ+ to attend?

Not at all! Pride is for everyone who believes in love, inclusion, and a good time. Allies, friends, family, and curious first-timers are all welcome—just bring your best energy and an open heart.
