What should I do if the eSIM is stuck activating on my iOS device?

Sometimes, an eSIM can get stuck activating on an iOS device. This usually happens when you have installed an eSIM but haven't yet arrived at your destination country/region. You can rest easy knowing that the eSIM is fully installed, even if it displays "activating" or "activation failure". The activation process will finish when you reach your destination and are within the network coverage area.

Even if the eSIM remains stuck on “activating,” there's no need to worry. If you've already installed it, it should activate automatically once you reach your destination and your device connects to a supported network.

Please follow the steps in the app to connect at your destination, or click here.

If you're setting up the new Airalo for the first time

If you're seeing this during the initial device setup (not a routine activation abroad), the setup process on your device's operating system may not have completed successfully. In this case:

  1. Go to "Packages" in the Airalo app and select your device.
  2. Open the "Device Options" menu and select "Retry device setup".
  3. Follow the prompts again, and avoid closing the app or interrupting the process once it starts — it may take a few minutes.

You can retry the setup as many times as needed on the same device.

Once you reach your destination and the device is within network coverage, the eSIM should activate successfully, and you can start using it.

How do I know if I'm using the new Airalo or the public Airalo?

  • If the app asks you to set up your device once and buy packages, you are using the new Airalo. Simply open the Packages tab (formerly "My eSIMs") to complete setup, and after that, whenever you buy a new package for your desired destination, it will be added to that same device automatically—no new eSIM needed.
  • If the app shows individual eSIM installation instructions for each purchase and the My eSIMs tab instead of Packages, you are likely using the public Airalo.
