The answer to this question will depend on whether you are using the public Airalo or the new Airalo.
How do I know which version of the app I’m using?
- If the app asks you to set up your device once and add packages, you are using the new Airalo. Simply open the Packages tab (formerly “My eSIMs”) to complete setup. After that, whenever you buy a new package for your desired destination, it will be added to that same device automatically, with no new setup needed.
- If the app shows individual eSIM installation instructions for each purchase and the My eSIMs tab instead of Packages, you are likely using the public Airalo.
If you’re using the new Airalo
Yes. With the new Airalo, you can set up your device as many times as needed, with no limit. If you need to set it up again, simply open the Packages tab in the app, where you'll find an option to trigger the setup directly.
That said, we’d still recommend temporarily disabling Airalo on your device instead of removing it when you’re not using it, so you don’t have to go through setup again unnecessarily. See “Why you might want to temporarily disable your eSIM” below for how.
For more on how device setup works with the new Airalo, see the new Airalo - Setup Guide and FAQs.
If you’re using the public Airalo
No, eSIMs typically can’t be reinstalled. We highly recommend you don’t remove any eSIM that you still intend to use.
Once an eSIM is removed from your device, you may encounter an error when trying to download it again. You will need to purchase, install, and activate a new eSIM to access mobile networks in your destination.
We recommend temporarily disabling the eSIM when you are not using it. Please note, your validity period is not paused when you temporarily disable your eSIM.
Why you might want to temporarily disable your eSIM
Temporarily disabling the new Airalo can help you save data when you're not actively using it. When disabled, it won't connect to mobile networks or use mobile data for background activities, such as app updates, syncing, or notifications.
This can be particularly useful when traveling between destinations, using another SIM for mobile data, or trying to make the most of a limited data allowance.
You can turn it back on at any time through your device settings when you're ready to use it again. Disabling the new Airalo does not remove it from your device or delete your installed profile.
To temporarily disable an eSIM on iOS devices:
- Go to Settings > Cellular > SIMs.
- Scroll to and select the relevant eSIM.
- Toggle Turn This Line On off.
To temporarily disable an eSIM on Android devices:
- Go to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks.
- Scroll to Manage eSIM and select the relevant eSIM.
- Select Disable from the “Disable mobile plan” prompt.
Keep in mind that disabling the eSIM does not deactivate it permanently. Your eSIM is put in a dormant state until you choose to reactivate it.
What if I already deleted my eSIM?
If you're using the new Airalo: Open the Packages tab, tap the three-dot menu next to the package, and select Retry device setup. Since setting up again is fully supported, you don't need to go through a separate recovery check.
If you’re using the public Airalo: If you have accidentally removed your eSIM, you can attempt to recover it directly in the app:
- Go to My eSIMs.
- You may see an option that says Deleted your eSIM?
- Confirm that the eSIM was removed from your device.
- The system will check if a reinstallation is possible for your specific plan.
- If possible: Follow the prompts to reinstall it.
- If not: The app will guide you to a Replacement or suggest contacting Support for help.
If you encounter any difficulties with your eSIM or have questions about managing it, please contact us via chat in the app or on the website by clicking the chat bubble.
