Yes, you can use your personal hotspot with your eSIM as long as it is supported by your device and the network.
This works the same whether you're using the new Airalo or the public Airalo — only where you find your APN, if one is required, differs.
How do I know if I'm using the new Airalo or the public Airalo?
- If the app asks you to set up your device once and add packages, you are using the new Airalo. Simply open the Packages tab (formerly "My eSIMs") to complete setup. After that, whenever you buy a new package for your desired destination, it will be added to that same device automatically — no new eSIM needed.
- If the app shows individual eSIM installation instructions for each purchase and the My eSIMs tab instead of Packages, you are likely using the public Airalo.
On iOS
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Personal Hotspot.
- Toggle on Allow Others to Join.
If an APN is required for your hotspot
- If you're using the new Airalo: Your APN is set automatically. If the hotspot doesn't connect, check that the APN for your Airalo line is automatically set. If it isn't, set it manually to globalapn in the Personal Hotspot APN field.
- If you're using the public Airalo: Go to My eSIMs, select your eSIM, and tap View Details. Under Ready to use your eSIM > Connect to a Network > How to connect, you'll see whether an APN is required. If the eSIM requires the APN to be set manually, you'll need to do this for the hotspot APN as well:
- Go to Settings on your device.
- Go to Cellular/Mobile Data.
- Select your eSIM under Cellular/Mobile Data Plans.
- Go to Cellular/Mobile Data Network.
- In the Personal Hotspot APN field, type the APN as written in the eSIM installation details (all lowercase, all one word).
- Leave Username and Password blank.
On Android
To turn on your device's hotspot, follow these steps:
- Set an APN before enabling Hotspot & tethering. If you're using the new Airalo, this is set automatically — see the iOS instructions above for the manual fallback if needed. If you're using the public Airalo, check your How to connect page for the APN if one is required.
- From the Home screen, open Settings on your device (pull down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped Settings button).
- Go to Network & Internet.
- Tap Hotspot & tethering.
- Tap Wi-Fi hotspot and turn it on.
